Welcome to the Center for Family History, a groundbreaking research center dedicated to assisting individuals, like you, reconnect with their family history and ancestors. Whether you are an experienced genealogist or just getting started on your journey, we’re here to help you find connections to your ancestors and discover more of your story.

Want to visit the Center for Family History? Admission to the museum includes access to the Center, its FamilySearch kiosks, storybooth, and more.

CFH Reference Library:

Our African American-focused Reference Library provides research resources for genealogists, family historians, historians, academics, historical researchers, and students. It is located in the Blackbaud Gathering Place area in the Center for Family History (CFH).

Whether you are beginning your ancestry journey – or your research is well under way – our Reference Library has documents and books to help with your African American research!

The Blackbaud Gathering Area is a dedicated space for CFH patrons to conduct their research. Volunteers will be able to provide assistance, general help, and answer any questions.

The following steps will help provide a smooth experience.

  • To guarantee a preferred book, you will need to register online to become a Reference Library Patron. If you are not a Reference Library Patron, please email us at [email protected].
  • Once registered, you can reserve up to 2 books prior to your visit. Reserved books will be held for a total of 48 hours.
  • When you arrive at CFH, please let the Volunteer/Staff member on duty know you reserved a book.
  • A valid ID will be asked for in exchange for the reserved book.
  • Your reserved book(s) will be brought to you in the Reference Library Reading Area. When finished, please return your book(s) to a CFH Volunteer/Staff Member. The CFH Volunteer/Staff Member will return your ID.
